WHAT IS A DESIGN PATENT?

A Design patent appliis to any invention that doesn't have any new and useful improvement but instead has a unique ornamental design. A design patent has no maintenance fees and a life of fourteen years from the time of issue after which, it falls into the public domain and the inventor no longer has the right of exclusion.
